Breast procedures are some of the most common surgeries performed. Whether it's a cosmetic operation to enlarge, reduce or lift the breasts, or a reconstructive procedure to rebuild a breast that has been partially or fully removed, the Form & Function Clinic's skilled surgeons have many years of experience in helping women achieve a beautiful bust. Using advanced techniques that give a natural-looking result, you can transform the way you feel about your chest.
Procedures we offer include:
Most breast surgery procedures will cause some degree of bruising and swelling, which may last up to three weeks. There may also be altered sensations in the nipple, such as reduced sensitivity. These are likely to improve over time, but you should be aware that you may not be able to breast feed after a procedure.
No two breasts will ever be the same and there may be slight variations in the size and shape of your breasts after surgery. You must also be aware that all breast surgery carries some degree of uncertainty and risk, such as bleeding, fluid collection, excessive scar tissue, or difficulties with anaesthesia. However, these risks are relatively uncommon.
As with any surgery, it is advised that smokers cease smoking at least 6 weeks before any procedure, as it can delay healing, potentially resulting in adverse scarring and a protracted recovery.
It is important that you completely understand the possible side effects of your procedure and that you discuss these during your consultation. If you do not understand your surgeon's explanation, you should ask for more information until you are satisfied that you fully understand what is involved.
Returning to your normal activities after surgery is an individual matter and depends largely on what your normal activities are. Most patients are able to return to work after one or two weeks, but others may require longer rest periods to return to more strenuous activities. Your surgeon will advise you as to your recovery program.
Follow your surgeon's advice on stretching exercises and what activities to avoid. As a general rule, you should refrain from overhead lifting and strenuous sports for three to six weeks. Your surgeon will also advise you on specific issues concerning bras, bathing and showering.
In most circumstances, breast surgery will not have to be revised. However, revisional surgery may occasionally be necessary to address minor irregularities. Your surgeon will discuss this with you if it is needed.
